Land O' Lakes is the center of Pasco County in every sense. The Pasco Sheriff's Office keeps its Land O' Lakes complex, including its public records unit, on Central Boulevard. US-41, known locally as Land O' Lakes Boulevard, runs north and south through the community. SR-54 crosses it on the south side, SR-52 crosses it at Gowers Corner on the north side, and the Suncoast Parkway forms the western edge. About 36,000 people lived here as of 2020, up from under 32,000 a decade earlier, and the subdivisions along Collier Parkway and Sunlake Boulevard have filled in fast.

Land O' Lakes crash corridors
US-41 (Land O' Lakes Boulevard). The main street of central Pasco is a mix of highway speeds and driveway access, with shopping centers, churches, schools and the county complex all opening directly onto it. The intersection of US-41 and SR-54 is one of the heaviest in the county.
SR-54. The main east-west road in south Pasco runs from Elfers through Odessa, past the Suncoast Parkway interchange, through Land O' Lakes at US-41, and on to Wesley Chapel and I-75. In Land O' Lakes it is lined with the big-box plazas and apartment complexes that followed the growth, and the left turns in and out of them are where many crashes begin.
SR-52 near US-41. The Pasco MPO has specifically named SR-52 near Land O' Lakes as one of the corridors where county traffic fatalities cluster. The state has plans to widen SR-52 near US-41 and realign both roads at Gowers Corner, which tells you how the intersection functions today.
The Suncoast Parkway (SR-589). Exit 19 at SR-54 and the SR-52 interchange in Shady Hills feed parkway traffic into Land O' Lakes at highway speeds. Crashes on the parkway itself are FHP cases almost without exception, and they tend to be severe.
Collier Parkway and Sunlake Boulevard. These north-south collectors connect the subdivisions to SR-54 and carry school traffic several times a day. With the Ridge Road extension reaching Sunlake Boulevard and heading toward US-41, Sunlake is becoming a through route rather than a neighborhood road.

Who investigates, and where the report comes from
Land O' Lakes has no city police. FHP Troop C handles most crash investigations in unincorporated Pasco, including the Suncoast Parkway, SR-54, SR-52 and US-41. The Pasco Sheriff's Office responds to many crashes on local roads, and its Public Records Unit is right here at 20105 Central Boulevard.
The Sheriff's Office generally does not complete long-form crash reports, so if a deputy worked your crash the report may be a single page. FHP's long form includes a diagram, narrative and witness list. Either way, the report is the beginning of the investigation, not the end. We photograph the scene, request 911 audio, ask nearby businesses to preserve video and locate witnesses before memories fade. That work is time-sensitive. Call (240) 421-5511 as soon as you can.
Hospitals that serve Land O' Lakes
Land O' Lakes has no hospital of its own, so crash patients are spread across three directions. To the east, AdventHealth Wesley Chapel at 2600 Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel at 4501 Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. To the south, St. Joseph's Hospital-North at 4211 Van Dyke Road in Lutz. The most serious trauma frequently goes west to HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital in Hudson, the county's only Level II trauma center.
Wherever you were treated, that visit matters legally. Florida's no-fault law pays PIP medical benefits only if you get initial care within 14 days of the crash. If you went home from the scene, see a doctor now.
Florida law for a Land O' Lakes injury claim
Deadline. Fla. Stat. § 95.11(5)(a) sets a two-year limit for negligence claims arising after March 24, 2023; wrongful death is also two years under § 95.11(5)(e). Claims against Pasco County, the school board or GOPasco require written notice under Fla. Stat. § 768.28(6) and are capped at $200,000 per person.
Fault. Under Florida's modified comparative negligence rule, Fla. Stat. § 768.81(6), you recover nothing if you are found more than 50 percent at fault, and your award is reduced by any lesser share. Left-turn crashes on SR-54 and US-41 almost always involve a fault dispute, and the evidence we gather in the first weeks decides it.
PIP. Your own policy pays 80 percent of reasonable medical expenses and 60 percent of lost income up to $10,000 regardless of fault, but only $2,500 in medical benefits unless a physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner finds an emergency medical condition. Pain and suffering from the at-fault driver requires a permanent injury or significant scarring under Fla. Stat. § 627.737(2).
UM/UIM. Florida does not require bodily injury liability coverage on most private vehicles. The driver who hit you may have no coverage for your injuries at all. Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage under Fla. Stat. § 627.727 on your own policy is often what makes a serious case worth pursuing, and we review every policy in your household to find it.

Questions people ask us about land o' lakes car accident cases
Who investigates a crash in Land O' Lakes?
Land O' Lakes is unincorporated, so there is no city police. The Florida Highway Patrol, Troop C, handles most crash investigations in Pasco County, including US-41, SR-54, SR-52 and the Suncoast Parkway. The Pasco Sheriff's Office, whose Public Records Unit is at 20105 Central Boulevard in Land O' Lakes, responds to many crashes on local roads. The exchange slip from the scene names the agency.
Where do I get a Pasco Sheriff's Office crash report in Land O' Lakes?
The Sheriff's Public Records Unit at 20105 Central Boulevard, Land O' Lakes, takes requests through its JustFOIA portal, by email, or in person; have the date, time and location ready. Crash reports from any Florida agency can also be bought through the Florida Crash Portal for $10 plus a $2 fee. For 60 days after the crash, only involved parties, their attorneys and insurers may obtain the report (Fla. Stat. § 316.066(2)).
Which hospital is closest after a crash in Land O' Lakes?
It depends on where in Land O' Lakes you are. The east side is closest to AdventHealth Wesley Chapel and BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel, both on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. The south side near SR-54 and US-41 is closest to St. Joseph's Hospital-North on Van Dyke Road in Lutz. Serious trauma is often transported to HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital in Hudson, Pasco's only Level II trauma center.
I was hit by a dump truck on SR-52. Is that different from a car crash?
Yes. Commercial truck crashes involve federal safety rules, driver logs, maintenance records and often a trucking company and its insurer rather than an individual. The evidence, including the truck's electronic data, has to be preserved quickly with a written demand. Construction traffic on SR-52 and SR-54 has grown with the county, and these cases need to be handled differently from the start. See our truck accident page or call (240) 421-5511.
How long do I have to file after a Land O' Lakes accident?
Two years from the crash for most negligence claims under Fla. Stat. § 95.11(5)(a), and two years for wrongful death under § 95.11(5)(e). Crashes before March 24, 2023 keep the old four-year period. If a county vehicle or GOPasco bus was involved, a separate written notice under Fla. Stat. § 768.28(6) is required before suit.
