Bayonet Point is the busiest corner of north Pasco. State Road 52 begins here, at US-19, and the hospital that gives the community its name treats the county's most serious crash injuries. About 27,000 people live in Bayonet Point, and nearly all of them use US-19, SR-52 and Little Road every day.

Where crashes happen in Bayonet Point
US-19 at SR-52. State Road 52 starts at US-19 in Bayonet Point and runs 32 miles east to Dade City. The junction with US-19 is one of the largest intersections on a corridor that a 2024 ConsumerAffairs study named the deadliest road segment in Florida, with more than 150 deaths since 2020. Traffic turning onto SR-52 toward the Suncoast Parkway, Land O' Lakes and I-75 shares the intersection with local traffic heading to the plazas and the hospital.
SR-52 from US-19 to Little Road. The first two miles of SR-52 pass Zimmerman Road, Majestic Boulevard and La Madera Boulevard before reaching Little Road. This is a commercial stretch with constant turning movements, and it carries ambulance traffic to and from the hospital. The Pasco MPO has flagged SR-52 as one of the corridors where county fatalities cluster.
Fivay Road. The hospital's address is 14000 Fivay Road. The road around the hospital campus and its medical offices is busy at all hours with patients, visitors, staff and emergency vehicles. Crashes here often involve distracted or distressed drivers.
Little Road (CR-1). Little Road crosses SR-52 about two miles east of US-19 and carries Bayonet Point commuters south to New Port Richey and Trinity. The MPO lists Little Road among the roads where fatalities concentrate.
US-19 and Ridge Road, just south. A 2024 intersection study ranked Pasco's intersections ninth deadliest in the country and specifically named US-19 at Ridge Road, the intersection at the end of our own street. Bayonet Point residents pass through it constantly.

The hospital next door
HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital is the only Level II trauma center in Pasco County, which means the county's worst crash injuries from Dade City to Holiday come here. If you were transported from a crash anywhere in north or west Pasco, this is likely where you were treated.
Two legal points follow from that. First, a same-day emergency room visit satisfies Florida's 14-day PIP treatment rule. Second, if a physician at Bayonet Point diagnosed an emergency medical condition, the full $10,000 in PIP medical benefits is available rather than the $2,500 that applies when no EMC is found. Keep your discharge paperwork; it answers both questions. If you were admitted, the hospital's trauma billing office will want to know who is paying, and a hospital lien may follow. We deal with the billing office so you do not have to.
Less severe injuries from Bayonet Point crashes are often treated at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital in New Port Richey. We meet clients at either hospital. Call (240) 421-5511 and we will come to you.
FHP, the Sheriff, and your report
Bayonet Point has no police department of its own. The Florida Highway Patrol, Troop C, handles most crash investigations in unincorporated Pasco, including US-19 and SR-52. The Pasco Sheriff's Office responds to many crashes on neighborhood streets and generally does not complete long-form crash reports.
That distinction matters. A long-form FHP report includes a diagram, narrative and witness list. A short form may be a single page. If your crash is on a short form, we rebuild the record ourselves: scene photographs, vehicle damage, 911 audio, witness interviews and video from the businesses at US-19 and SR-52. That evidence has a short shelf life, which is why we ask people to call in the first days after a crash.
Florida law and your Bayonet Point claim
Two years. Fla. Stat. § 95.11(5)(a) requires negligence suits to be filed within two years of the injury for crashes after March 24, 2023. Wrongful death claims also carry a two-year limit under § 95.11(5)(e).
The 51 percent bar. Florida's modified comparative negligence statute, Fla. Stat. § 768.81(6), eliminates recovery for anyone found more than 50 percent at fault. Big-intersection crashes like US-19 at SR-52 are exactly where insurers argue over who had the green. Signal timing records, witness accounts and vehicle data settle that argument, and we go get them.
PIP and the threshold. Your own PIP pays 80 percent of medical bills and 60 percent of lost income up to $10,000 regardless of fault. Non-economic damages such as pain and suffering from the at-fault driver require a permanent injury, significant permanent scarring, permanent loss of an important bodily function, or death under Fla. Stat. § 627.737(2).
UM/UIM. Because bodily injury liability is not required on most private vehicles in Florida, a serious injury caused by a minimally insured driver often has to be paid by your own uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage under Fla. Stat. § 627.727. Many Bayonet Point retirees have never been told what their declarations page means. We will explain it.

Questions people ask us about bayonet point car accident cases
Is Bayonet Point its own city? Who handles crashes there?
No. Bayonet Point is an unincorporated census-designated place of about 27,000 people, with addresses that use Hudson (34667) or Port Richey (34668). There is no Bayonet Point police department. Crashes are worked by the Florida Highway Patrol, Troop C, especially on US-19 and SR-52, or by the Pasco Sheriff's Office on local streets. Your exchange slip from the scene tells you which.
I was taken to Bayonet Point hospital from a crash on SR-52. Can you meet me there?
Yes. HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital at 14000 Fivay Road is a few minutes from our Ridge Road office, and we meet clients in their rooms when they cannot come to us. Bring, or have a family member bring, the exchange slip from the scene, your insurance card and any photos. We can start protecting evidence the same day.
How do I get the crash report for a Bayonet Point accident?
Most reports are available through the Florida Crash Portal at services.flhsmv.gov for $10 plus a $2 convenience fee. Allow up to 10 days for posting; the emailed link expires in 48 hours. During the first 60 days, Fla. Stat. § 316.066(2) restricts access to the people involved, their attorneys and insurers. If a deputy responded, the Pasco Sheriff's Office Public Records Unit in Land O' Lakes also fills requests. We handle this for every client.
What if the other driver on US-19 only had the Florida minimum insurance?
The Florida minimum is $10,000 in PIP and $10,000 in property damage liability, with no bodily injury coverage required on most private cars. That means the at-fault driver may have nothing to pay for your injuries. Your own uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage under Fla. Stat. § 627.727 fills that gap if you bought it. We check every policy in your household.
How long do I have to bring a claim after a Bayonet Point crash?
Two years from the date of injury for negligence claims under Fla. Stat. § 95.11(5)(a), and two years for wrongful death under § 95.11(5)(e). Crashes before March 24, 2023 keep the earlier four-year limit. Video from the plazas along US-19 and SR-52 is overwritten in days or weeks, so the practical deadline for preserving evidence is much shorter.
