On an August afternoon in 2026, an SUV heading north on US-19 in Holiday drifted onto the shoulder, traveled several hundred feet and struck a car stopped at the red light at Continental Drive, near the entrance to Alternate US-19. A 59-year-old Holiday woman in the stopped car died, and two other Holiday residents were hurt, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Nothing about the crash was unusual for this stretch of road except that it made the news.
Conde-Huggins Accident Injury Lawyers handles car accident claims for Holiday residents from our office at 6609 Ridge Road in Port Richey, a straight run north on US-19. The consultation is free, and we meet clients at home in Holiday or at the hospital. Call (240) 421-5511.
Holiday's crash map
US-19 from the county line to Moog Road. Traffic enters Pasco from Tarpon Springs already moving at highway speed and meets a series of signals in quick succession: Continental Drive, the Mile Stretch Drive and Bonita Road signal, Darlington Road, Sunray Drive, Gulf Trace Boulevard and Moog Road. Rear-end collisions into stopped traffic are the pattern here. In 2021, FDOT finished new crosswalks and curb ramps at Bonita Road, Sunray Drive and Moog Road and added refuge islands at Continental Drive, and in June 2024 it completed a $600,000 mid-block crossing at Buena Vista Lane and Bartelt Road. Those projects change where traffic stops, not how fast it arrives.
The Alternate US-19 merge. Alt 19 comes up from Tarpon Springs, collecting traffic from Anclote Boulevard and Anclote Road, and ends at US-19 in Holiday. Drivers joining the highway there misjudge the speed of the vehicles already on it.
Mile Stretch Drive. County Road 595 leaves US-19 a block north of the Alt 19 terminus and runs through the neighborhoods toward Grand Boulevard and Elfers. It is the local route around the highway, with residential driveways and limited sight lines at the side streets.
Moog Road. The road crosses US-19 and connects the subdivisions on the west side with the plazas on both corners. Turning traffic in and out of those plazas produces angle crashes with through traffic on Moog Road and on US-19.

Which agency, and which county
Holiday is unincorporated, so there is no city police department. FHP Troop C investigates most crashes on US-19 and Alt 19, usually with a long-form report that includes a diagram and narrative. The Pasco Sheriff's Office responds to many crashes on Mile Stretch Drive, Moog Road and the neighborhood streets, and its reports are often short forms with little beyond names and insurers. A crash a few hundred feet south, in Tarpon Springs, is worked by the Tarpon Springs Police Department or FHP, and any lawsuit would be filed in Pinellas County rather than at the West Pasco Judicial Center on Little Road in New Port Richey.
The agency name and report number are on the exchange card you were handed at the scene. If you lost it, we will find the report.
The Florida rules that decide a Holiday car accident claim
Fourteen days for PIP. Personal injury protection on your own policy pays 80 percent of medical bills and 60 percent of lost income up to $10,000 regardless of fault, but Fla. Stat. § 627.736 cuts off medical benefits if initial care is not received within 14 days of the crash. Morton Plant North Bay Hospital, 6600 Madison Street in New Port Richey, is the nearest emergency department for most of Holiday; HCA Florida Trinity serves the east side; and the Level II trauma center at HCA Florida Bayonet Point in Hudson receives the worst injuries. A physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner must document an emergency medical condition, or the medical benefit is capped at $2,500.
Permanent injury. Pain and suffering from the at-fault driver is available only when a treating doctor documents a permanent injury, significant permanent scarring, loss of an important bodily function, or death under Fla. Stat. § 627.737(2).
Two years. Fla. Stat. § 95.11(5)(a) requires a negligence suit to be filed within two years of a crash that happened on or after March 24, 2023.
Fifty percent. Fla. Stat. § 768.81(6) bars recovery for a driver found more than 50 percent at fault and reduces it by the driver's share below that line. At the Alt 19 merge and the Moog Road plazas, both insurers will assign a percentage to you before anyone has looked at the evidence. We look at the evidence first.
Call (240) 421-5511 before giving either insurer a recorded statement.
Uninsured drivers on US-19
Florida requires only PIP and property damage liability on most private vehicles. The driver who rear-ended you at Darlington Road may have no bodily injury coverage at all, and if the driver fled, which happens on this corridor, there is no one to claim against. Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage under Fla. Stat. § 627.727 on your own policy, or on the policy of a relative you live with, fills that gap and treats a hit-and-run driver as uninsured. It is often the only coverage that pays for a serious injury in Holiday, and it must be claimed properly: prompt notice to the police and the insurer, and a demand supported by medical evidence. Read why UM coverage matters in Pasco.
We also check whether the other driver was working, who owned the car, whether a rideshare policy applied under Fla. Stat. § 627.748, and whether a county or state vehicle was involved, which brings in the notice rules and caps of Fla. Stat. § 768.28.
What the first week looks like
We order the crash report from FHP or the Sheriff's Office, send preservation letters to the gas stations, pharmacies and plazas along US-19 whose cameras overwrite in days, photograph the vehicles before repair, open your PIP and property damage claims so the calls go to us, and gather every declarations page in your household. Then we tell you what the claim looks like.

Questions people ask us about holiday car accident cases
I was stopped at the red light at US-19 and Continental Drive and was hit from behind. Is the other driver automatically at fault?
Florida law presumes that a driver who rear-ends a stopped vehicle was negligent, and the presumption holds unless the rear driver produces evidence of something unexpected, such as a sudden stop without reason or a mechanical failure. In practice the insurer accepts fault and then disputes your injuries, arguing that a crash at that speed could not have hurt you. The event data in both vehicles, the damage photographs and consistent medical treatment are how we answer that. Do not describe your injuries to the insurer before you have been examined.
My crash was at the Alt 19 merge and the other driver says I failed to yield. How is that decided?
By the evidence, not by whoever spoke to the adjuster first. A driver entering US-19 from Alternate US-19 must yield to traffic already on the highway, and a driver on the highway must still exercise due care; under Fla. Stat. § 768.81(6) each of you is assigned a percentage, and you recover as long as yours is 50 percent or less. Video from the businesses near the merge, the position of debris and damage, and witness statements settle the question. Those sources last days, so call (240) 421-5511 early.
The crash happened just south of the county line in Tarpon Springs. Can Conde-Huggins still help?
Yes. A few hundred feet decides whether the Tarpon Springs Police Department or FHP wrote the report and whether a lawsuit is filed in Pinellas rather than at the West Pasco Judicial Center, but Florida's PIP, comparative fault and two-year rules are the same on both sides of the line. Our attorney has practiced in Pinellas courts as well as Pasco courts since 1992, and we represent Holiday residents hurt anywhere in the Tampa Bay area.
I was not taken to the hospital and have not seen a doctor yet. Is it too late?
Not if the crash was within the last 14 days. Fla. Stat. § 627.736 pays PIP medical benefits only when initial care is received within 14 days, so an urgent care, emergency room or physician visit today preserves up to $10,000 in benefits. Ask to be evaluated by a physician, physician assistant or nurse practitioner, because only one of them can document the emergency medical condition that keeps the full benefit available instead of $2,500. Morton Plant North Bay in New Port Richey is the closest emergency department for most of Holiday.
How long does it take to get an FHP crash report for a Holiday accident?
Reports from FHP and the Pasco Sheriff's Office are sold through the Florida Crash Portal for $10 plus a $2 transaction fee and can take up to 10 days to appear; the download link expires 48 hours after it is emailed. For the first 60 days, Fla. Stat. § 316.066(2) limits the report to the people involved, their attorneys and their insurers, who must submit a sworn statement when requesting in person or by mail. We obtain the report for every client as part of the free consultation.
